Abstract:
Databases constitute the core of every Information System and provide data for the
implementation of any business process within a company. In the modern era, Artificial
Intelligence offers significant challenges and signals new requirements for database systems.
Database management systems are called upon to integrate Artificial Intelligence functionality
that transform them into intelligent systems that automate processes and functions, optimize
queries, provide new ways of interacting with users and integrate data analytics and machine
learning functions. This paper presents the challenges and opportunities offered by Artificial
Intelligence in database technologies, the ever-increasing intelligent capabilities that database
systems are called upon to incorporate, as well as the difficulties and failures that arise from
them. The present work aims to present the particularly demanding role that a modern
database is called to play for the functioning of an organization, to highlight the requirements
and limitations that exist from existing database systems, the challenges that arising in the
modern era and to briefly present the Framework DataBase (FDB) model which provides query
expansion through multilingual thesauri and efficient conceptual searches within the
framework of a database. Finally, issues concerning future challenges and extensions of the FDB
model are briefly presented.
